Quesnel downtown businesses will host the annual Walk Talk Shop event Thursday, May 2 to Saturday, May 4.

Parveen Pannu, vice-president of the Quesnel Downtown Association (QDA) and chair of the promotions committee said 20 merchants will be hosting spring sale events over the three days.

“Our slogan for our downtown is it’s a place where you can walk, talk and shop, so we play on our slogan an make a weekend event out of it each year.”

The aim is also to encourage residents to shop local rather than online or out-of-town and remind them of the different businesses in the downtown, including some new ones recently added.

Pannu grew up in Quesnel and has been part of the family’s business, City Furniture, opened 30 years ago.

With the weather improving, the association has seen an increase in the numbers of people shopping locally, she added.

“We try to create more positive events to get people engaged,” she said, adding in November they organize the Moonlight Madness.

Matt Maglio, president of the QDA also said it’s about engaging with the community and getting people out to enjoy all the downtown has to offer.

“It’s a great way to have people visit our businesses and for us to promote our businesses.”
