Since July 13, Barkerville Brewing Co. has donated $1,403 towards the Red Cross B.C. Fire Appeal.

“This year is the worst B.C. wildfire season since 1958, and Quesnel’s Barkerville Brewing Co. has been in the thick of it all summer. As neighbouring communities such as Williams Lake and 100 Mile House have suffered through evacuation order, the brewery stepped in to fundraise for evacuees,” the company stated.

“Since July 13, for every pint sold at the brewery tasting room, the brewery has donated $1 to the Red Cross B.C. Fire Appeal. As of August 3, the total donation reached $1,132.”

Brewery owner Russ Ovans was recently on TSN radio’s Just Here for the Beer in Vancouver to discuss the fire situation, its impact on northern businesses, and the brewery’s fundraising efforts.

In addition, the company is partnering with Prince George brewery CrossRoads. All 100 per cent of proceeds of their special altbier, called Community, will be donated to the Red Cross.

Bottles are available at all liquor stores in Prince George, Quesnel, Williams Lake and 100 Mile and on tap at Barkerville Brewing.

Alt refers to the “old” style of brewing (making top- fermented ales) that was common before lager brewing game popular.

“Our version is a clean, yet robust, full-flavoured amber ale brewed in the southern German tradition,” Crossroads explained. “Ready, nutty, malt character is balanced with a delicate noble hop aroma and flavour. The addition of a small amount of German beechwood smoked malt adds an intriguing level of complexity.”

Donations will continue until further notice.
