Earth Day has a grassroots celebration at West Fraser Timber Park on Saturday (April 20) from noon to 2 p.m.
Eco-Sprouts facilitator Laurie Bare will be on-site and the park’s nature centre will be open to the public with its fish tanks, salmon information, vermicomposting, and Shelly the popular special resident at the facility.
“There will be pond dipping, and I will be leading hikes,” said Bare.
It was outlined that, “We will walk two of the new trails in the West Fraser Timber Park. Hikes are at 12:15-12:45 p.m. and 1:00-1:30 p.m. We will meet by the playground before each hike. Spring migration is in full swing, we recommend bringing your binoculars.”
The philosophy of the day’s activities is the more we learn about our local ecosystems, the more we will care for them. The purpose of the Baker Creek Enhancement Society is to complement public education, environmental representation, interpretive trail building, and ecological restoration in Quesnel.
“This is a free family event. I hope to see you there.”
She reminded families that the Eco-Sprouts program will be back up and running this spring, with information available at the Earth Day event and more coming soon.
“Owl see you Saturday,” said Bare.
