A car was destroyed and a truck was badly damaged following a fire in Williams Lake in the early morning of Friday, March 8.

The vehicles were parked at a home on Second Avenue in the Glendale area of Williams Lake when the fire occurred.

Residents in the area told Black Press Media they heard a loud bang and saw the flames just after midnight.

The car, a Volkswagen Beetle, was where the fire initially started. Witnesses said a strong westerly wind then blew the flames to the truck nearby, catching the back end of it on fire.

A second, similar Volkswagon Beetle, is also know to frequent the residence but was not there at the time of the fire, said residents.

Assistant fire chief Cory Boyd confirmed members of the Williams Lake Fire Department (WLFD) received the fire call at 12:20 a.m., and the first member was on scene at 12:26 a.m.

WLFD members knocked down the fires quickly once on scene, with three apparatus and nine firefighters responding to the blaze.

Boyd said cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Black Press Media has reached out to the Williams Lake RCMP for more information regarding the fire.

Staff Sgt. Brad McKinnon confirmed March 11 there is an active police investigation underway.
