Some new road markings on Front Street have now been completed, with traffic now able to enter left-hand turn lanes between Moffat Bridge and St. Laurent Avenue, in order to assist the flow of traffic.

Drivers will now follow guided lines to turn onto Barlow Avenue, or into businesses along the Front Street corridor. The south-bound lane is now one lane rather than two, to make room for the centre turn lane.

The changes are part of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s safety improvements to the road. A three-lane configuration (one northbound, one southbound, one centre turn lane) was chosen due to limited space on the road not allowing for a four-lane option, according to the Ministry’s Quesnel Transportation Study.

The centre turn lane will also provide opportunities for a pedestrian refuge to be installed as the construction continues, according to the plan.

MOTI has already relocated the traffic signal from Carson Avenue and Reid Street to Carson and McLean, with the light operational as of this week. The change was also part of the Ministry’s ongoing safety improvements.

Further improvements to take place this month include adding the centre turn lane on Front Street/Highway 97, in locations up to River Park Road on Two Mile Flat, according to the Ministry’s website.
