The BC SPCA in Quesnel will soon reopen after being temporarily closed due to heavy rains compromising the building’s roof and interior ceiling this past summer.
According to a news release, the shelter will pick up on Thursday, Dec. 1.
“During the past number of weeks, BC SPCA team members have worked diligently to coordinate assessments and temporary repairs,” said Adrienne McBride, senior director of Community Animal Centres for the BC SPCA. “We are grateful to the community of Quesnel for their patience during this temporary closure and to our amazing staff for their flexibility as we found alternative ways to provide SPCA services in the community to protect animals and to support pet guardians.”
During the recent repairs, the BC SPCA continued its services for animals in the Quesnel area, including animal protection investigations, adoptions, care for lost and homeless animals, and community support services for pet guardians such as pet food banks and low-cost spay/neuter vouchers.
McBride noted while assessments are still underway to determine the long-term viability of the building, sections of the building that are now safe for humans and animals to occupy have been reopened.
“I know the team will continue to provide excellent animal care and customer service from the facility,” she added.
Starting Dec. 1, the Quesnel facility will be open to the public from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday and Monday. It will be closed Tuesdays, Wednesdays and holidays.
Scheduled appointments for animal surrenders and adoptions are encouraged.
