The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing sent out a press release today (Mar. 6) expanding on BC Housing’s modified plan for the proposed supportive housing project at Elliott Street in Quesnel.

The statement explains that, after conversations with the City of Quesnel, the supportive housing project will provide 30 supportive housing units, rather than the initially proposed 32.

The facility will also include four support recovery beds, funded and managed by Northern Health. A BC Housing spokesperson clarified that these would be for those who require health support – often mental health or addictions recovery support.

BC Housing has submitted a letter of intent to Quesnel city council, which will be discussed tonight during the regular council meeting.

The press release says the Province is working with the city to find a new location for a shelter, and that Seasons House on Carson Avenue will remain open until that new site is operational.

More to come after tonight’s council meeting.
