Former local resident Sheldon William Nipshank did not appear in Quesnel provincial court on Jan. 23, and three warrants were issued for his arrest.
In the same Quesnel courtroom on Jan. 9, Nipshank, who was in custody at the time, appeared before the judge seeking a Judicial Interim Release, which is used until bail is granted or denied or the accused has chosen to remain in custody by consent.
The court agreed on an adjournment to allow Nipshank to be arraigned before an adjudicator.
Nipshank was facing several charges arising from a break-and-enter of outbuildings on the property of a home off Highway 26 on Oct. 23, 2017.
According to the Quesnel RCMP press release, the B&E occurred around 3 a.m.
A man approached the home and rang the door bell. The owner answered the door and he saw the suspect run away from the property.
The owner then discovered his outbuildings had been broken into.
He turned his home video surveillance over to the Quesnel RCMP, and investigators were able to identify the suspect as Sheldon William Nipshank.
According to the release, around 10:10 p.m. on Oct. 24, an RCMP member who was patrolling in police car spotted Nipshank’s vehicle and arrested him.
RCMP searched the vehicle and seized a loaded rifle.
Nipshank is facing charges of breaking-and-entering, trespassing by night, failure to comply with court orders, firearms-related offences and obstruction of a peace officer.
