The family of Harry Lung Chick Chew Keen sadly announces his passing on Saturday, August 15, 2009 in Quesnel, B.C.. Harry suffered from a disorder of the bone marrow and died peacefully at GR Baker Memorial Hospital.

Harry was born on July 16, 1925 in Quesnel, B.C. He liked to play hockey and later developed a love for golf. As a boy Harry was an avid model airplane builder. He earned spending money by delivering papers and also found time to become a King Scout.

Harry completed his Grade 12 Diploma by attending night school in Vancouver while working in the shipyards. Education was important to Harry. When he had the opportunity he sought to educate himself through correspondence courses, night school and reading.

Harry and his brothers Bill and Charlie were successful in business as retailers. Over 37 years their business on Reid Street in Quesnel, B.C. evolved from Keen’s Grocery to Keen’s Men’s and Boy’s Wear to Keen’s Sports.

Harry married Mildred Yipp from Victoria, B.C. in 1953. They raised Frances, Bob and Connie in Quesnel, during their marriage of 49 years. Harry was a caring, loving and fun father. Disciplining the children was Mildred’s job. Harry preferred the soft touch.

Harry enjoyed many leisure activities such as hockey, curling, golf and bowling.

Over the years Harry devoted time to Quesnel Minor hockey, the Quesnel Curling club and the Quesnel Golf club.

Harry was predeceased by his parents Chew Lai and Mon Ho Keen, his brother Charlie, his wife Mildred and his eldest child Frances.

He is survived by his son Bob (Shirley), his daughter Connie (Dale), his son-in-law Gordon, and his eight grandchildren Robyn, Holly, Jordan, Erica, Brandon, Nicola, Samantha and Matthew. We will all miss Harry, his kindness and his hearty laugh.
