Melvin Leonard Lybeck passed away peacefully at Dunrovin on Dec. 29th, 2012.

Mel was born on Oct. 14th, 1918, in Ketchen, SK to Axel & Marie Lybeck. He helped on the family farm until heading west in 1940. He worked as a long shoreman in Port Alberni and then worked in the lumber industry before becoming a mechanic. He came down with viral pneumonia then tuberculosis, which brought him to the Tranquille Hospital in Kamloops. After his recovery he was hired on there as their maintenance man where he stayed for 24 years, taking early retirement when the hospital closed.

On March 14, 1964, he married Miriam “Ruth” Grierson, who was a nurse at the Tranquille Hospital. The lived in the Kamloops area until moving to Hixon then into Quesnel.

Mel is predeceased by his wife, Ruth, parents; Mary and Axel Lybeck, brother; James, sister; Evelyn, nephews; Larry, Lyle, Grant and Jim.

he leaves behind brothers; Ernie and Garry, sisters; Viola and Audrienne as well as many nieces and nephews.

A graveside ceremony was held on Jan. 10, 2013, where Mary Scott read Psalm 23.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the Dunrovin staff for their care of Mel in the years he spent with them. He always said he was never lonely because he had “so many nice nurses looking after him”
