It is with our deepest sympathy that we report the passing of Merle Melvin Shannon on January 4th, 2009 after a prolonged struggle with COPD.

Merle is survived by his loving parents Melvin and Beryl Shannon, his brother James Shannon, his sister Joyce Shannon, her partner Tony Hack and Merle’s two nieces Tara Shannon and Aubrey Shannon as well as Tara’s beloved husband Kelvin Stelter and their three children Rylan, Mersaya, and Kenzie along with many friends and family.

Merle will be remembered as a very kind and generous person who was well loved by all who knew him.

Merle worked for West Coast Energy for numerous years but his passion was in wood working. He was extremely talented when it came to wood working and in his final years he enjoyed creating many beautiful pieces of laminated furniture as well as whittling his “whirly-gigs” as he fondly referred to them.

A Celebration of Merle’s life will be held on his birthday, July 25, 2009 in Sorrento, B.C. Details will be published at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Merle to the B.C. Lung Association, P0 Box 34009, Stn D, Vancouver, BC V6J 9Z9.
