It is with great sadness that the family of Renee announces her sudden passing on September 16, 2009 at the age of 31.

Renee will be lovingly remembered by her beloved husband James Mattila, stepchildren Vienna and Christopher, mother Marita (Mario) Sanchez, father Daniel (Denise) Tomlinson, loving sister of Erynn Tomlinson, Adom Bromley and Scot Tomlinson, in-laws Bob and Heather Mattila and family. She was an adoring granddaughter, cousin and niece of the Bromley, Tomlinson families. A loyal friend, colleague and co-worker of so many people, far too numerous to list.

Renee colored the world like a kaleidoscope. The performing arts and art were an integral part of her being. Ailanthus and Little Theatre were highlights. Art, a never-ending passion in her life.

In the summer of 2005, Renee married her beloved James. Her arms opened wide to welcome her new blessings, Vienna and Christopher. Renee was devoted to her family, was a good wife and especially a good loving mother. Her love, strength and passion held her family close.

In 2006 when Renee was diagnosed with breast cancer, she showed a discipline that was larger than life. As Renee walked that horrendous dark road, she attained goals that were unbelievable. She continued her studies, and in 2007 Renee graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with two majors, Major in Liberal Arts and Major in Literature, and was on the Dean’s Honour Roll.

As a child she was an inquisitive little Brownie and loved the challenge of crafting and earning badges. This positive experience guided her to becoming a leader for SPARKS in Comox and Cumberland. Renee was recently honoured with the Bronze Merit Award, an award to adult members who are dedicated to Guiding and provide exceptional service and program to the girls.

There will be a celebration of her life in Courtenay on her birthday, Saturday, October 10, 2009 at the Best Western Westerly Ballroom from 1 to 4 pm. Donations may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation in honour of Renee.

We will miss you Renee.

Renee’s spirit will go on to colour our world beautiful.
