Rose Evelynn Prokop

February 2, 2009

Rose Prokop, born May 18, 1919 in Winnipeg, Manitoba passed away in Victoria on February 2, 2009 at the age of 89. She is survived by her loving children Diane Heavener, Linda Becker (Allan) and Ron Prokop (Dawn), 4 grandchildren, Cory Heavener (Chris Smith), Cindy Heavener, Holly and Colin Becker and 4 great-grandchildren, Ryan and Gabrielle Smith and Lauren and Owen Twamley. Rose was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Bill, in August 2008, her son in law David Heavener in May 2008 and her brother Walter.

Rose married Bill in 1942 and they enjoyed a long and happy marriage. They had many wonderful years raising their 3 children throughout the province. They lived in Vancouver, Salmon Arm, Prince Rupert and settled in Quesnel where they built their family home on the banks of the Fraser River. Their home was always full of love, laughter and great Ukrainian food and it is in that home that many cherished family memories were made. Rose was the “world’s best mother, Baba and G.G.” and her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren loved her more than anything. There is nothing she wouldn’t do for her family, whom she was so proud of and doted on.

Rose worked for many years with special needs children in Quesnel. She also was a champion bowler and enjoyed joining Bill at Dragon Lake for a round of golf. She was very proud to be a member of the Royal Purple for over 40 years and took great pride in the work she did for the organization. Rose and Bill loved to travel throughout the province and enjoyed many fun summers with their children and grandchildren at Shuswap Lake.

A special thanks to the staff at Broadmead Lodge in Victoria and Johanna – who all took care of Rose.

No service by request. Condolences can be made on www.remembering.ca through the Victoria link.

We all love you so much Grandma! The Rose of our family will never be forgotten.
