It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stanley Robertson, on February 26, 2009, at the age of 76 years. Stan was raised in the Kersley area, where his family had a homestead. He married his wife Norma in 1955, and together they raised their five children in the Quesnel area.

Stan worked in many fields of construction as a carpenter, from the bridges of Highway 97, to the schools in the Quesnel area, as well as many years for Sargent Construction. In 1978 he joined West Fraser Mills, as a carpenter, where he stayed until he retired. He was also a long standing member of the Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department since 1963, and assisted in establishing the Barlow Creek Fire Department.

Stan loved the outdoors, and the family spent many hours camping, fishing, and hunting along with snowmobiling and skiing in the winter. His favourite places were Quesnel Lake, Beavermouth, and the Chilcotin.

In 1997, a move to Penticton was made for health reasons, but he was still able to enjoy his second love, travelling. Stan and his wife travelled many miles in their motorhome, going to the sunny south in the winter months, Yuma, Arizona in particular, where he enjoyed the love and friendship of many “RV” friends. Summers were spent camping with his “Good Sam” buddies. Golfing became a favourite hobby, and a good chance to see B.C. golf courses. Even though his health restricted him, he enjoyed life to the fullest.

Stan was loved dearly by many, and his sense of humour and sunny smile will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Norma, from Penticton, daughter Kathryn, also from Penticton, sons Tom and David from Prince George; grandchildren, Joel Reese, Bonnie and Brian Josephy, Quesnel, Ashley Robertson, Prince George and Liam Robertson, North Bay, Ontario, and three great grandchildren, Anthony, Alyssa and Amelia.

He was predeceased by his son Kenneth in 1980 and daughter, Heather in 1995; brothers Dave, 2008, Archie, Andy, Alex and John.

A memorial tea in Stan’s honour will be held in Quesnel at a later date, in May. The family would appreciate donations made in Stan’s memory be made to the Better Breather’s Clubs of the BC Lung Association.
