I want everyone to put down your paper, stand up, and give a little dance; an individual pep rally.

The girls of Correlieu’s senior volleyball team have brought their season to a close. After three months of hard work, practice and practice and practice, these young women have learned to play as a single unit. Sitting in the stands, or on the bench next to the coach, wherever you are, the skill is unmistakable. These women are aware of every strength and weakness on the court at any given time. They recognize who will step up, who will step back, and who will hit the floor.

Volleyball is a game that happens quickly. Within a 12-second rally there will be a serve, a bump, a chosen setter, and two spikers in the air one after the other. If the ball is returned, there are immediately two blockers on the net, a backup bumper, and the cycle continues. I must say that I have very rarely seen an opposing team successfully meet the power behind a spike delivered by a Correlieu player.

The first tournament of the season was held in Revelstoke B.C. Our girls came home as champions, taking first place.

Following Revelstoke, they attended three tournaments hosted by Prince George. Our girls brought home 3rd place every PG tournament. Just quite recently, Correlieu Secondary School hosted the Northern BC Zone Championships. Our girls played very hard, placing 5th in the district. Sadly, they did not qualify for Provincials.

We have not seen the last of these girls; they will be back at it next year, prepped and ready to hit our district, and ultimately the province, harder then they every have before. But until then, congratulations to every team member for all their hard work. A shout out and a huge thanks goes to the coaches, Steve and Monica Klassen who are, just like these girls, back at it every year.
