It’s that time of year again: back to school. It’s a time students say they dread, but are secretly excited about.

Back to school means school sports starting up again. School sports can be a great thing while you are involved, as well as after graduation. They can open up scholarship opportunities and create strong bonds with teammates.

It’s almost a month into the school year and some sports have already started, including girls senior volleyball and cross-country running. If you would like to join either, talk with Mr. McGregor for girls volleyball at Correlieu Secondary, or Mr. Truman for cross-country running at Quesnel Junior School.

There are several other sports that are just starting up now, including girls junior volleyball, senior boys soccer and girls soccer, as well as boys and girls rugby. Mr. McGregor at Correlieu is your contact for those teams. If you want to join any of these sports, sign up will continue until the end of the month.

Outside of school, CanSkate and CanPowerSkate are still taking sign ups for all the future figure skaters and hockey players out there.

All of these sports do require a fair amount of commitment to your coach and to the team; many have games and meets out of town in places like Williams Lake and Prince George, along with practices two to three times a week.

This is the first column of a new series written by Abby Fisher and myself, Katherine Osmond. We have begun writing this column in the hopes that we can gain valuable experience and connections, As we are presently students at Correlieu, it makes sense that we would write weekly about the new sports developments surrounding the school and its students. Abby and I both have a passion for writing and hope we can learn and improve our skills over the course of this year.
