The Dragon Lake Elementary School’s girls basketball team won the district championship on March 6.

On March 5, eight teams competed in the play downs in two locations.

Red Bluff Elementary School was first and Voyageur Secondary School second in one pool, and Dragon Lake Elementary was first and Parkland Elementary School was second in the other.

The top 2 teams from each pool moved on to the March 6 games.

Dragon Lake beat Voyageur in game 1, and Parkland beat Red Bluff in game 2.

The winners moved on to the final.

Dragon Lake was very strong at the start and jump into 18-0 lead.

Parkland rallied in the second half, but was unable to catch up.

The final score was 38-24.

The Dragon Lake girls were incredibly strong this year.

We didn’t have a chance to play Parkland in the regular season games, and none of the other teams had challenged us.

We were surprised by how strong Parkland was. They had only six players (we had nine), and they fought very hard.

We were lucky to have amazing referees for the finals because the girls were so rough the first day.

All the fouls were being called, so the games were cleaner, safer, and more fair.

Rob McGauley, who handed out the pennants, remarked that he hadn’t seen this level of basketball by elementary school girls in a long time.
