Two Quesnel under-18 curling teams attended the U18 Regional Playdowns in Williams Lake in January.

The junior teams didn’t make the finals but boys’ coach Dave Plant says all the youth played well.

“The other teams in this division are a lot older than our curlers,” he explains.

“They were very good sports and learned a lot.”

The girls’ rink included members in grade 7, 9 and 10: skip Branda Eggert, lead Hailey Murray, second Gracie Smith and third Cassidy Nikirk and fifth Kenya Kueber-Mchone were coached by Dana Johansen.

Eggert says despite the losses, they did well as a team.

“We got to play teams we’d never played before and learn new skills from the other teams,” she says.

“It was neat to play on different ice and we got to learn different speed techniques. We also got to play by professional game rules, so that was good experience.”

The boys’ team that attended was made up of skip Caleb Woollends, lead Noah Woollends, second Mattias Cheung and third Kyle Eggert.
