The Quesnel Fun League held its annual hockey tournament over the weekend (Jan. 27-28) at West Fraser Centre and Quesnel Arena 2.

The league had plenty of teams come to play, including local Quesnel teams and those from Prince George and Williams Lake.

The four teams that made the semi-finals were the Gold Panners, the Prince George Hornets, Black Water and Cariboo Hose.

Gold Panners played the PG Hornets, winning 4-2 to make it into the final. In Black Water versus Cariboo Hose, Team Black Water came out on top, winning 6-3 to enter the final game.

In the final, Black Water won the top spot, beating the Gold Panners 6-3.

The Black Water team consisted of former Quesnel residents who grew up in the area and created a team to come play for the weekend.

Earlier on Saturday (Jan. 27), Fun League president Terry Kirkham predicted their win: “Black Water is probably going to win, as you can see from their scores so far,” he laughed.

Terry said the 19-and-over league had a good turnout for its annual tournament, which has been an annual event for almost 40 years. Terry himself has played in the league for 40 years exactly, starting out in 1978.

The tournament lived up to the league’s name, with players confirming it was an enjoyable way to spend a weekend.
