Quesnel sisters Avery and Destiny Bautista, who play on the Prince George Cougars bantam girls team, battled Williams Lake’s team Feb. 24-25 in Prince George at the bantam girls play downs.

The PG team won a first-place championship in the 2017/18 Okanagan Mainline Amateur Hockey Association’s Female Bantam League on Feb. 17-18, advancing them to the play downs.

Avery, who is a rookie at 12-years-old, and Destiny, 14, joined the Cougars in September. They travel to practice with their PG team, and said in September they were enjoying playing with the high-level all-girls team.

The Cougars’ first play-off game against WL was tense, said the girls’ mother Debbie Toussaint Bautista, with a disallowed goal for the PG team with just two minutes left in the third period and the scoreboard reading nil-nil.

“But Prince George made it count. The final score was 1-0,” she commented proudly.

The teams played a second game, with the Cougars winning easily 8-0.

The double-win for PG means the girls will play in the Female Bantam Provincials in Greater Vancouver next month.
