The Prince George Cougars bantam girls team has had an infusion of Quesnel talent this year, with sisters Destiny and Avery Bautista joining the team.

Destiny is 14 and younger sister Avery is a rookie, at 12. Both girls played in Quesnel over the weekend during the Bantam Icebreaker tournament, with their Prince George team winning two games.

“This is our first year playing on the Prince George Cougars team,” said Destiny.

“I want to continue with the team because it’s a higher level [than the girls’ teams in Quesnel] and it will help me develop better.”

Avery said she is playing for the bantam rep team in Quesnel as an affiliated player, but like her sister is focusing most of her effort on the Prince George Cougars.

Avery said she plays every position except goalie, and Destiny explained she mainly plays defence, but is able to play other positions when needed.

The girls acknowledged that they have lots of travelling to do this season to make the 6 a.m. practice times with the Cougars, but both seemed eager to show the PG team their commitment.
