Quesnel figure skater Haley Sales and her ice dance partner Nikolas Wamsteeker, of Langley, have qualified to attend the 2018 ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships in Taipei City Jan. 22-27.

The pair just competed in the 2018 National Skating Championships in Vancouver Jan. 8-14, where they placed sixth in the Senior Dance category.

The skating duo was in Quesnel over Christmas, and said at the time their goal was to go to the Four Continents Championships.

“Nationals is a decider if we are going to Four Continents [Figure Skating Championships], which is an international event. The top teams at Nationals will go. We are sitting in fifth, so we are planning to go; that’s the goal,” said Haley in December.

They’ll compete in Taipei in the Ice Dance category, along with fellow Canadian pairs Sarah Arnold and Thomas Williams, and Carolane Soucisse and Shane Firus.

Haley and Nik are also alternates for the Olympic skating team, so beyond Four Continents, they will continue to train into March 2018.
