The Cariboo Ski-touring Club’s annual ski and outdoor gear swap is coming up this Saturday Nov. 4 at Hallis Lake Lodge from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The club is asking those with gear they are ready to part with to drop it off Friday Nov. 3 between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Ron Watteyne, who sits on the club’s executive committee, said the club is excited to be getting ready for the upcoming ski season at Hallis Lake, and the ski swap kicks it all off.

“This event gets people out to see the lodge and to see the facilities we have at Hallis Lake,” Watteyne said.

“We have 4km of lighted trails for snowshoeing and night skiing, and our lodge has a cozy fireplace, kitchen and the rental shop, where you can rent classic cross-country skis, skate skis, snowshoes, and even a toboggan to pull your kids in as you ski.”

The ski-touring club will take a percentage of the sale of the gear on Saturday, which goes towards running the club and lodge.

Items for sale will include anything related to non-motorized outdoor sports, including cross-country skis, bicycles, camping and backpacking gear, canoeing and kayaking gear and even hiking and running items.

Watteyne said they are hoping to open the lodge from Dec. 15, depending on snowfall.

“Sitting inside all winter, people get cabin fever. If you get out and try cross-country skiing, you’ll start to look forward to the season.

“We live in the Cariboo – we’ve got to take advantage of the seasons we have,” he commented.
