The Quesnel Agricultural and Exhibition Association president is thrilled about this year’s Quesnel Fall Fair, which is featuring its first horse show.
The 109th celebration of agriculture and community kicked off 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at Alex Fraser Park with vendors, music and the hunter and jumper division.
“We’re really excited to have a horse show included with our fall fair,” Christine Miller said.”It is a BC Hunter Jumper Association qualifier, so we’ve got an international show judge, Lewis McKim, from Vancouver.”
The British Columbia Hunter Jumper Association’s mission, according to its website, is to support and promote B.C.’s hunter and jumper riders at all levels.
While the Quesnel Fall Fair has had its share of gymkhana and barrel racing in the past, Miller said this would be their first such event organized by Carolyn Dobb-Sutherland.
The Quesnel Fall Fair was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19.
Miller noted it would not be possible to hold the fair this year without volunteers, which they remain in dire need to continue in the future.
“We have a strong sense of community but giving back to the community by volunteering seems to be where all these groups, and the fall fair included, are struggling, and it takes a big group of people to put this on,” Miller said.
The Quesnel Fall Fair continues Saturday, Sept. 10, and Sunday, Sept. 11, with free admission, children’s activities and more.
