Hikers in Quesnel have 3 kms of new trails to explore.
The city has opened up a Fuel Management Trail System, located next to the Quesnel Airport, on Quesnel-Hixon road. The trails officially opened on June 2. The network includes four loops of varying length, from the 0.5 km Rabbit - Goh trial to the 1.1 km Grizzly - Shas trail.
“The new trails meander through a fuel managed demonstration forest, where trail users can experience what a fuel treated stand of trees looks like,” a newsletter reads. “There is also an educational kiosk with information on wildfires and fuel management.”

The site of the trails was identified as a high risk area when the city developed a wildfire protection plan. In 2019, a biomass removal project reduced the wildfire threat, while maintaining forest health.
The city has released a video of Quesenel Mayor Bob Simpson touring the new trails on his bike.
