Art piece a celebration of life

Bert de Vink surpervises the installation of his art.

If life is worth living, there should be some beauty in it.

Bert de Vink watches closely as the art piece is lifted high in the air. The crane stops, the art sways left, then right.

Sun hits the deep blue, violet and white – the northern lights seem to sparkle in the morning light.

The piece is a joint-effort and one to be enjoyed by every member of this community. It is, what de Vink says, “makes a city a city.”

“Cities that have a heart, with culture at the centre,” he said.

‘Those remain a place people want to live, to thrive, to visit.”

Surely the installation of the metal sculpture/painting mounted on the

side wall of City Furniture is a welcome addition to the Gold Pan City.

The piece depicts a snowy landscape, dotted with gnarled trees, the Northern Lights snake their way above and across.

“I’m quite happy with it,” de Vink said simply shrugging his shoulders.

But he’s quick to point out the project was a collaboration.  While the concept and iron work was de Vink, the frame and outside was by Quesnel Iron, the painting done by Dr. John Havens, Dragon Signs and Neon and Cotter Hiab and Trucking aided in the installation.

“It was time to create something happy,” de Vink said.

“There’s so much misery in this world, we need to appreciate life.”
