BC-based entertainers Bernie and Red are in Quesnel for their annual appearance Sept. 10, at the Elks Hall.

Originally from Liverpool, England, Bernie and Red moved to Canada in the late 70’s and quickly established themselves as one of the most popular and hard working acts in Western Canada.

Bernie and Red perform regularly across Canada, the U.S. and Great Britain, and as far away as Alaska, South America and South East Asia.

Since their first show in Quesnel 20 years ago, the duo has built a fan base due to their distinctive mixture of comedy and music has appealed to many.

A Bernie and Red show is diverse, with renditions of Don’t Cry For Me Argentina and an operatic aria in fake Italian.

The pair has been married for 45 years and consequently have a wealth of comedic material about the joys of marriage and family life.

Bernie is a long suffering husband who strives to get a word in, and Red is the feisty red-head who will have you doubled over laughing.

The couple, who met as teenagers, returns to England annually to renew themselves as well as their English accents.

“Because we’ve been living and performing in North America for 30 years now, we are now something of a novelty in Liverpool and people enjoy coming out to see us, which is very gratifying,” Red said.

“We also enjoy going back to our roots and the feisty verbal interchanges that are part and parcel of big city life in the UK.”

The big city life is what the two wanted to get away from when they emigrated to Canada in the 70’s.

They eventually settled on a small acreage, raising livestock.
