Big Brothers Big Sisters of Quesnel is a strong supporter of Pink Shirt Day to promote anti-bullying messages in our community.
Don’t forget to wear pink on Feb. 28 to show bullying victims that they are not alone – support and help is available.
Pink Shirt Day and the anti-bullying movement has worked hard to get its message across since 2007.
Pink Shirt Day originated with two Nova Scotia high school students, who decided to take a stand against bullying in their own school by handing out pink shirts to their peers in a show of solidarity with their classmate who was being bullied for wearing pink.
Remember, when we respond quickly and consistently to bullying behaviour, we send the message that it is not acceptable in our schools, workplace or community.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Quesnel is planning its annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake on April 27.
The theme for this year is “Be a Hero – Be a Big!” Dress up as your favourite hero and get ready to have some superpower fun!
Bowling starts at 4:30 p.m. and teams are already registering. You can register and collect pledges online at bigbrothersbigsistersofquesnel.ca.

Funds raised from Bowl for Kids’ Sake stays local in our community to provide a multitude of quality mentoring programs to children and youth at no cost to families.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Quesnel would like to extend our utmost gratitude to the Correlieu students in Psychology 11 with Earl Tourangeau and Peer Counselling 11 class with Jennifer Stevenson that participated in the Teen Mentoring program last school semester.
Fifty-one Teen In-school Mentors were matched with students at Voyageur Elementary School.
During the 11-week program, Big Buddies and Little Buddies had lots of fun together – most importantly, they learned a lot from one another and all participants greatly benefited from the experience.
Teen Mentors provided a total of 901 volunteer hours being positive role models and helping build a child’s self-esteem.
A new group of Teen In-School Mentors will be trained, screened and ready to be matched after Spring Break.
