There were terrific results from what was described as an amazing bike sale supporting the North Cariboo Seniors’ Council (NCSC) and the Literacy Quesnel Society (LQS).
More than $1,700 was raised from the sale held Saturday, Aug. 6, at Lewis Drive Park.
“That was for both groups in total, but it’s a success in the sense that all the items that we had there, all the bikes were donated from bylaw and the City of Quesnel,” said NCSC coordinator Nicole Audet.
“We sold approximately 60 bikes and still have 20 left to sell at our next sale.”
The two not-for-profits were selected to be this year’s beneficiaries of the City’s surplus of bikes and unclaimed items, which were found around Quesnel and went unclaimed for two years.
They plan to host another sale, including an online auction, in September or October with additional unclaimed items, such as televisions, rims, tools and more.
“We wanted to cover a wide range of projects that support not only seniors but all ages, so this is a perfect partnership,” Audet said of the fundraisers.
“And with Literacy Quesnel moving into their new facility at the West Park Mall, we’re excited to partner with them.”
The LQS anticipates opening at West Park Mall early next month, with a grand opening on International Literacy Day Thursday, Sept. 8.
“Once we’re situated, we’re going to be able to look and see what kind of program expansion we can do, things like providing book clubs, and ideally having hours after school,” said LQS outreach coordinator Lacey Kvist.
