While the fireworks were certainly missed at Billy Barker Days this year, the laser shows that took their place was a decent alternative.

With dry ice filling wafting through the air, the crowd waited for dusk to settle on picnic blankets and lawn chairs.

Children darted around in their pyjamas, enjoying the late bedtime, while people of all ages snuck in one last vertigo-inducing fairground ride of the day.

The show got started with a marvelous laser animation of Billy Barker dancing on a white screen on the back wall of the curling rink.

While Friday’s show was country and western themed, Saturday’s light show was orchestrated to classic and contemporary rock.

An obligatory Pink Floyd animation was foremost, which was followed by Cold Play and a variety of other songs those gathered seemed to enjoy.

Kids got on shoulders, adults watched enraptured and some cool teens even swayed a little.

Nu-salt Laser Light Light Shows put on an excellent performance altogether.

It might have lacked the bombast of explosions lighting up the night sky, but it was something to behold regardless.

For those who missed the shows on Friday and Saturday night, there is one more on Sunday, which will feature a mix of music genres.
