People of all ages in Hixon can now be transported to another world, without making a long drive to get books from Quesnel or Prince George.

The Hixon Book Nook was recently installed by Hixon Shoppers Food Mart, located on the Cariboo Highway.

Books line the wooden shelves of the eight-foot-long white and green structure crafted by Ian Kilgour.

“We’re really excited,” said Hixon Community Association treasurer Pat Suter.

“It’s a little bigger than a little library that you see on the street corner, but because of the number of people we have here, we felt that it was okay to make it a little bit bigger. So we’re really hoping that it works out and people will bring a book and take a book.”

A grant to build the Hixon Book Nook was provided to the association by Volunteer Terrace.

After its installation on Saturday, March 5, the association stocked its shelves with various reading materials purchased at the Friends of the Prince George Public Library Book Sale.

“We’ve had a lot of good feedback on it, and hopefully, lots of people will get good use from it,” Suter said.

A grand opening for the Hixon Book Nook is set to take place on Saturday, March 26, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Hot chocolate, coffee and treats will be available to take home along with a book.
