Canada Day celebrations will be in-person this year at LeBourdais Park where food, crafts and entertainment will be available for everyone.
Opening ceremonies for the community event are scheduled to start at 12 p.m. Friday, July 1.
”We haven’t been able to do anything for two years,” said City of Quesnel event coordinator Charlene Lawrence.
“This year, we’re really excited we can gather together and have another event in the park and celebrate Canada.”
Canada Day cupcakes, watermelon and bannock will be available along with water stations on what is anticipated to be a sunny, hot day.
New this year will include a teepee with smudging.
A seniors’ and elders’ strawberry tea inside the Billy Barker Showroom will coincide with the free festivities at the park. Registration is required and open until 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, by contacting 250-992-5875.
Last year, Canada Day was celebrated in Quesnel with a virtual bingo.
“We’re just really thankful we can all gather again, and we can host this,” Lawrence said of Canada Day 2022.
