An upcoming Job Fair will bring area employers and job-seekers together in one place for a day of networking and information gathering.

Work BC Quesnel/Quesnel Employement Services and its partners, including Community Futures North Cariboo, are hosting a Job Fair Thursday, April 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Quesnel and District Seniors’ Centre at 461 Carson Avenue.

Admission is free.

This is an opportunity for in-person networking with local and regional employers.

“It’s to help people who are searching for work go out and hand their resumes to a whole bunch of employers at once,” says Regena Gibbs, the Work BC/Quesnel Employment Services Job Fair co-ordinator.

“It’s also a great chance for employers to see who is looking for work.”

Gibbs says they have 40 employers confirmed for this year’s Job Fair, and there is a wide variety of companies looking for everything from seasonal employees to full-time staff.

Some of the employers taking part in this year’s Job Fair include College of New Caledonia Quesnel, the Canadian Armed Forces, Starbucks, Wings, the Industry Training Authority, Hub International Insurance, West Fraser, the District of Wells, Northern Health, and Cariboo Chilcotin Aboriginal Training Employment Centre.

“It’s a big mixture,” says Gibbs.

“It’s a little bit of everything. Depending on what the public is looking for, I think they will find something that will fit their needs. There’s definitely a good variety of employers.”

Gibbs says there has been a lot of positive feedback from previous Job Fairs. They usually see about 600 people coming through the door.

Gibbs encourages people who are coming to the Job Fair to make sure they are dressed appropriately to speak with potential employers and make sure they bring lots of copies of an up-to-date resume.

Job seekers will have a chance to hand in their resumes and speak one-on-one with a lot of employers about the jobs that are available.

“I think a lot of employers are there to let people know what they do and what these jobs are,” says Gibbs.

Leading up to the Job Fair, Work BC Quesnel will be running Job Fair Preparation Sessions April 12 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and April 13 from 1-3 p.m. to help job seekers learn how to make the most of their Job Fair experience. The sessions will offer tips on what to do before, during and after the fair. To register, call 250 992 7691 or email TammyLess@quesnelemploymentservices.com.
