Saturday’s Winter Carnival and Sno-Pitch Tournament were greeted with -15 degrees Celsius weather, a chilling wind and blustery snow – but intrepid Quesnel residents came out for a bit of fun in LeBourdais Park and at West Fraser Centre regardless, enjoying the sledding, crafts, skating and marshmallow roasting.

Miss Quesnel Avery Drew and princesses Loraine Marshall and Danica Mailloux were on hand for face painting, and Quesnel Mayor Bob Simpson threw the first pitch to kick off the Sno-Pitch Tournament, for the game between the Snowflakes and the Rusty Swingers.

City of Quesnel recreation coordinator Tarin Lefebvre says numbers were down due to the weather, but the event still saw around 200 people attend the free skate sessions, and around 300 come through the park for the various events and activities.

“That’s not too bad for a wind chill of -29,” she comments.

A brilliant fireworks display closed the event for another year.
