Community is important at all times, but maybe now more than ever, as we deal with the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the spirit of neighbours helping neighbours, the Friends of Bouchie-Milburn Society has been busy collecting donations for Christmas hampers to support families living in the Bouchie Lake-Milburn Lake area.

The society’s hamper committee has set up a train inside the Bouchie Lake Hall, which is quickly filling up, and on Monday, Dec. 7, the committee held a Christmas hamper donation drive-thru outside the hall to help fill the train, with Rocky’s General Store donating a free coffee for anyone who donated that day.

“I think it’s been really successful, with lots of food donations and lots of cash,” said committee member Elaine Ross.

“There are lots of great gifts,” added committee member Peggy Smith.

The Friends of Bouchie-Milburn Society is collecting donations at the Bouchie Lake Recreation Hall at 1975 Centennial Rd. until Dec. 16, and the Bouchie Lake Country Store at 2338 Bonny Rd. is collecting donations in a big red crate just inside the store — which is already overflowing thanks to the generosity of the community.

The hamper program, which is also being supported by the Bouchie Lake Recreation Commission, serves families living in the Bouchie-Milburn area. If anybody wants to nominate a family living in that area for a hamper, they can contact Leslie Holland at 250-249-5430.

This is the fourth year the society has done a community Christmas hamper campaign.
