Roller Derby comes to Twin Arenas July 15.

The Gold Pain City Derby Girls are revved up and ready to introduce the exciting sport of roller derby to Quesnel in the Gold Rush Rumble, July 15 at the Twin Arenas.

“Billy Barker Days was just too good of a backdrop to miss for a derby debut here in Quesnel,” GPCDGA president, Dorine Lamarche, a.k.a. Reani RinkRash said.

“It’s been a real adventure getting it put together!”

Being new in the world of roller derby, the GPCDGA realized quickly they didn’t have the first clue about putting together an event and it’s been a learning curve ever since.

The biggest challenge has been gathering enough skaters from other teams in B.C. who could fill out the barely blooming team, but there are now players coming together from Kamloops, the Okanagan and Williams Lake to help the Gold Pain Girls take on the Rated PG Roller Girls from Prince George and it is sure to be a fabulous debut.

“We’ve been training hard the last three months, and we’re hopeful that we’ll have several Quesnel girls passed their minimum skills test so they can skate in the event. But we knew we’d not have enough to make up a full team, we’re just too new.” RinkRash says.

“The Lake City Derby Girls and their coach, Manny have come to the rescue and took the reigns to help the Gold Pain Girls put together a team, gather refs and nso’s (non-skating officials) and make sure the event is a success.

“We owe a lot of gratitude to the Lake City Derby Girls and to the Rated PG Roller Girls for a lot of support in starting to put together a team in general, but Manny and the LCDG really saved our butts on this event!”

There will be a dance and after party sponsored by the Shark Club, with DJ, starting shortly after the event has ended for those 19yrs and over. Tickets for the event and after party are available at Urban Woman, Attitude South and the Shark Club $5 each. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the event starts at 7 p.m.

This kind of event depends heavily on volunteers for its success and the Gold Rush Rumble is no exception.
