“Cookies for sale” was loudly chanted outside Dragon Lake Elementary by the 1st Dragon Lake Guides and the 1st Red Bluff Brownies, who teamed up for a cookie drive-thru sale on Thursday, April 28.

The Girl Guides caught the attention of many motorists on Quesnel Hydraulic Road who pulled into the entrance of the school to purchase a box or two of the famous cookies.

“They were having a great time, those girls,” Katherine Greenwood said with a laugh. “They worked well together. We had older girls helping younger girls—it went really well.”

The 1st Dragon Lake Guides leader guesses the girls sold 20 boxes of the chocolate and vanilla cookies, raising anywhere between $200 to $250.

Drivers were quick to return to support the cash-only fundraiser after withdrawing money from an ATM.

“That’s great because sometimes it’s not always the case, but this year it was,” Greenwood said, thanking everyone. “I think people were just missing the interface with the girls.”

With COVID-19 restrictions lifted, Greenwood is looking forward to the two groups teaming up for other future events.

More cookies were sold on Saturday, April 30, at LeBourdais Park, where a district afternoon meet with crafts and games was held.

Greenwood said they plan to hold a district camp at the end of June after which they will continue doing different things throughout the year, such as learning about bees.
