Inside the Golden Centre early Thursday afternoon, Phil Erickson could be seen playing a game of pool with Harry West.
The first vice president of the seniors club later shared some laughs with other members who stopped by for lunch and mingling.
He hopes others will consider joining them now that the centre located on Front Street and operated by the Old Age Pensioners’ Organization is open.
It was previously closed to the public throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, although Erickson and a few other fully vaccinated members still managed to get together over some close-knit games of pool, crib, or cards.
“Everyone has found something else to do,” Erickson said. “Either that, or they are all still scared.”

Membership director Elaine Couldwell agreed it is challenging to get others out and that people are in a rut.
“We’re always looking for new members,” Erickson said, noting that there have been at least a dozen members who have since moved into Dunrovin Park Lodge or passed away over the past two years.
“It is open to everybody.”
Membership is available for ages 45 and over.
The Golden Centre is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with lunch starting at 11:30 a.m.
