Hospital Auxiliary chosen for wool shop charity

Hospital Auxiliary chosen because they are voracious knitters and all proceeds remain in Quesnel

Wow!

The generosity of the citizens of Quesnel never fails to amaze me.

Today, I want to shout out a special thank-you to the Top Drawer Yarn Studio.

Two special people – Kirsten Deane and Rebecca Ferreira — from the shop select a charity to support every Christmas. This year, they chose to hold a “yarn drive” and donate all the yarn collected to the GRB Hospital Auxiliary. On behalf of the Auxiliary, I accepted 12 large bags of yarn, various colours, weight plus some hand-knitted toques.

Alanna Siemens, co-owner of the shop, graciously used her shop to collect the many balls of yarn. When I asked how they chose us for this year’s charity, she simply said, “the Auxiliary is always busy knitting and all funds raised by the Auxiliary stay in our community” (this meant a lot to them).

These funds, in turn, are used to purchase hospital equipment that remains in Quesnel.

On the last day of December, three of us took inventory of remaining 2017 stock and found that we had less to carry into the new year than in the past.

This is a good indication that our merchandise is moving very well.

A very big thank-you to our astute buyer Barb Glover and to the dedicated Red Squad workers in the shop.

We will hold our annual AGM on Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. in the lower board room of the hospital.

All current officers and committee heads will remain in place until 2019 with the exception of two vacancies, first and second vice -president.

If you are interested in our organization, stop in at the shop and pick up an application form or give me a call at 250-992-5893 for more information. We always welcome new members.

On behalf of the Auxiliary to the GRB Hospital, I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year.
