Well another year has come and gone.
New Years was a huge success. The lounge was at capacity and enjoyed the sounds of Country Calibre and in the hall they danced the night away to the Old Time Fiddlers. No mishaps, everyone behaved and rang in 2011 successfully.
The executive and office manager Wanda, have been busy putting together this year’s calendar of fun events for everyone to participate in and enjoy. You will not want to miss any of these.
Roll Call has already begun with its first week of daily draws.
Every paid up members’ name has been put into a draw bucket and every Tuesday to Friday, at 12:30 a name is drawn. If you are present, you win the jackpot.
If not, your name goes back in to the draw bucket for more chances to win.
Weekend draws will be at 3:30 p.m. so you can come in for the meat draw and maybe win more than you had expected.
The general meeting was cancelled this month. It was scheduled for Jan. 4 but weather conditions were severe.
Too much snow and when you add in driving at night the Legion felt it was too risky for its members. The next general meeting is Feb. 4.
If you were at the Friday night jam you enjoyed the velvet vocals of John Goodwin, a treat for everyone who two stepped the night away. There are only two more Friday jam nights left.
Branch 94 is gearing up for some jamming to be held in the hall. The first of these events will be a rock/metal jam Jan. 28. These jams will hopefully encourage the 30 – 40 age group – not that everyone is not welcome.
Who knows? You may decide that this is your music of choice. Stay tuned for more details in future columns. Next week you can look forward to Ukrainian New Year’s, Jan. 15. Cocktails at 6:30 p.m. with the meal at 7:30 p.m. and dancing to Wrangler at 8:30 p.m. This is a wildly popular event, so if you haven’t already purchased your tickets, hurry in so you won’t miss out.

You never know what treasures are lurking in unexpected places.
Scrapbooking is scheduled to start Jan. 22 in the hall, 10:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. This is an incredibly creative way to display all those photos or memories you may have tucked away somewhere in a box. Just think how satisfying it would be to have them on display in this unique way.
The Quesnel Pipes and Drums are gearing up for the annual Robbie Burns night. This event takes place in the hall Jan. 29.
For anyone with a desire for a Scottish evening complete with haggis, pipes and highland dancing, this is definitely something you will not want to pass up.
The draw for new members who had their applications in by Dec. 31, 2010, has not yet been drawn. The winning names will be drawn once everyone has been initiated and fees are paid. The response has been very, very good. So stay tuned to see who is the winner of those 10 Friday night dinners.
Don’t forget to pop in for lunch any Tuesday to Friday for some home-cooked goodness. While you are there, you may even be the lucky one to hear your name called out for Roll Call.
Good luck to all members. And, if you have not already paid those 2011 dues, get it there and get that done. The sooner you do, the sooner you will get it on this jackpot, as well as all the other fun activities awaiting you at your local Legion.
