G.R. Baker Memorial Hospital and Dunrovin Park Lodge will be getting upgrades to their buildings between 2019 and 2022.

The Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Hospital District approved funding to support Northern Health’s upcoming building integrity projects at G.R. Baker hospital and Dunrovin Park Lodge during its meeting on Oct. 12.

The CCRHD will provide a total of $85,332 divided into equal payments in 2019 through 2022 for proposed projects including an air conditioning unit and kitchen fire suppression system for G.R. Baker Hospital, and roof and fire alarm system upgrades at the Dunrovin Park Lodge, among other projects.

CCRHD chair Bob Simpson said the hospital district funds Cariboo hospitals on a project basis, with the Interior Health Authority and Northern Health Authority applying for specific amounts based on work or funding needed.

The G.R. Baker Memorial Hospital and Dunrovin Park Lodge projects are part of ongoing maintenance to keep the buildings up to code and in good repair, said Simpson.

The CCRHD funding represents 40 per cent of the amount needed for the building projects. The Northern Health Authority will fund the remaining 60 per cent of the projects, according to Simpson.

The CCRHD cost shares with the Ministry of Health for acute care and extended care capital purchases. All Cariboo Chilcotin residents pay for the costs of building local hospitals and purchasing capital equipment through an annual Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Hospital District tax requisition. Currently the tax rate for the CCRHD is $70 per $100,000 of residential assessment.
