Quesnel has become a favourite destination for many young Japanese looking to improve their English, learn about Canadian culture and share their own culture.
Mizue Kida arrived in Quesnel on May 11 with delegation from Shiraoi Japan helping the community celebrate 30 years of twining sister cities. Mizue, 32, was the curator at the Ainue Museum in Shiraoi Japan. She is staying in a rental unit and helping here in Quesnel.
Mizue will help our other volunteer Noby Ohno at Quesnel/ Shiraoi House throughout her time in Quesnel. Mizue is not sure how long she will stay in Quesnel, but she does have a year on her visa.
Mizue, like most of the young people who come to Quesnel from Japan, would like to improve her conversational English and learn about Canadian culture as well as teach about Japanese culture.
She came to Quesnel last year with one of the Quesnel/Shiraoi Twining Society delegations in May 2010 representing the Ainue Museum. She played an instrument during our 29th anniversary dinner celebration of twining sister Cities with Quesnel and Shiraoi Japan.
Diane Graham is a Shiraoi member.
