The North Cariboo Agricultural Development Advisory Committee (ADAC) elected its 2018/19 executive recently.

Kersley Farmers’ Institute’s Martin Rossmann is the new committee chair, with BC Forage Council’s Sheri Schweb named secretary. Rob Borsato, from the Quesnel Farmers’ Market, was voted in as treasurer.

Committee members include Erin Durrell of the Quesnel Cattlemen’s Association; Roy Josephy who represents the horticulture industry; College of New Caledonia’s Morgan Ross; and Cariboo Regional Agrologist with the Ministry of Agriculture Nicole Pressey. CRD vice-chair John Massier will act as a liaison on the committee.

“We, as a committee, are excited to be moving forward with our mandate,“ says Rossmann. “North Cariboo ADAC will be reaching out to agriculture producers to capture their needs and local knowledge. Our goal over the next few months is to identify what extension services would benefit the local agriculture industry.”

The ADAC aims to grow the agricultural industry in the North Cariboo. It was created in spring this year, and is funded by the Cariboo Regional District.

In addition to the new executive being voted in, two people have been hired to facilitate the roll out of ADAC’s projects over the next nine months. Sonoran Resource Management Ltd. team members Tyler Jasper and Adam Schaan will work to gather input from the agriculture community across the North Cariboo this fall and winter.

CRD director John Massier says the ADAC is on course with its mandate.

“With the election of the executive and the hiring of facilitators, ADAC is well positioned to support our local agriculture industry going forward,” he says.
