A new show is coming to the Sunset Theatre in Wells.
My Life in the Gold Rush is a one-woman show, following the life of Catherine Parker, an Irish immigrant to Barkerville in the 1800s.
The show is written and performed by Amy Lee Newman, a producer at the Theatre Royal in Barkerville, and is set to run on July 19 and Aug. 23 at 8 p.m.
Karen Jeffery, the executive artistic director at the Sunset Theatre, says the story is about Parker and “the people she met and the people that crossed her path during that time.”

The play is based on fact. “It talks about some of the hardships and some of the triumphs, and some of the reasons that made this area so attractive for people to come and build a new life.”
Jeffery says Newman plays around seven or eight different characters in the play. “It’s just a real pleasure to host Amy at the Sunset. we’ve been wanting to do this for years and it’s just finally worked out this year, so I’m really thrilled about that,” says Jeffery.
