Performances by Metis dancers, pack horse demonstrations and a stick horse poker ride are just some of the fun and informative activities that took place at the Bouchie Lake Recreation Grounds Saturday, May 25 as the community celebrated Billie Bouchie Day.
May 27, 2019 marks 117 years since Lizette and William Boucher (Billie Bouchie) pre-empted 320 acres of land in the area thereby becoming Bouchie Lake’s first permanent settlers. This is the third year the Friends of Bouchie-Milburn Society has organized an event to mark Billie Bouchie Day, which focuses on coming together through celebrating the community’s history, with an emphasis on the contribution that the Metis, First Nations and early settlers made to the development of the region.
