Pink Shirt Day is held on the last Wednesday of February each year as a day to spread awareness and stand up to bullying.
It began in Nova Scotia in 2007 when a student was bullied for wearing a pink shirt at school. In response two other students bought and gave out 50 pink shirts.
Stats Canada reports seven out of 10 children experience some form of bullying. They also found that children who are bullied experience higher stress levels, are less able to sleep and experience physical effects such as headaches and stomach aches as a result of the bullying.
