Students weren’t the only ones wearing pink in Quesnel on Wednesday, Feb. 23 to stand up to bullying.
Pink Shirt Day, a nationwide anti-bullying campaign, was also recognized by Emcon Services.
The highway and bridge maintenance company shared an outdoor photo of staff wearing pink shirts and hoodies with the words ‘Choose Kind’ on Facebook.
“Today, we gathered to bring awareness to Pink Shirt Day, a day to remember that bullying and discrimination can be anywhere, even the workplace,” Emcon Services wrote.
Pink Shirt Day has been celebrated annually since high school students in Nova Scotia organized a protest in 2007 in support of a male student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt.
“Please join the students and staff of the Quesnel School District on Pink Shirt Day as we continue to provide a united voice against bullying, homophobia and transphobia,” stated Superintendent of Schools Dan Lowndes.
This year’s theme is “Lift Each Other Up” which promotes greater acceptance, respect and inclusion for everyone.
“The message of “Lift Each Other Up” is so important to empower all of us to support each other,” Lowndes continued.
“This message is becoming increasingly important.”
