Four Riverview elementary school students from Judy Minion’s Grade 4/5 class were honoured by the B.C. Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund for the posters they created for Burn Awareness Week Poster Contest.

With more than 2,100 entries from all over the province, Sheldon Cameron was one of six regional winners and the only one from the north.

For his win, Sheldon received $500 for his school, a pizza party for his classroom courtesy of Panago Pizza, a plush fire dog toy, a fire safety pencil and eraser as well as a participation certificate and his poster framed.

Brogan Cassidy, Megan Zappone and Dominic Isenor-Fitzpatrick were three of 43 who also submitted winning posters.

They each received $50 for their school, the toy dog, pencil and eraser. Their posters were returned to them.

Judges included healthcare professionals from the burn units, fire fighters and sponsors of the program.

Riverview principal Kathy Fowkes said some of the money will be used for the Grade 4/5 year-end field trip and the Grade 4/5 students will decide where the balance will be applied to benefit the entire school.
