Public invited to celebrate Gallery of Honour Feb. 3

This year's recipients are Maggie Ferguson-Dumais, Margo Rose and Noreen Haloran (posthumously)

The Quesnel and District Community Arts Council is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2011 Gallery of Honour, in the adult category Maggie Ferguson-Dumais and Margo Rose as well as Noreen Haloran for the posthumous award,  will be presented with their award Feb. 3, beginning at 6:30 p.m.There were no nominations in the youth category.

The celebration takes place in the foyer and lounge of the Quesnel and District Arts and Recreation Centre, in conjunction with the grand opening of the new show at the Art Gallery, Art From the Heart.

The public is invited to attend. There will be musical entertainment and tasty treats.  Cathy Walsh is performing on the piano and the

Northern Lights Harps will also perform with guest performers on flute.

The Gallery of Honour is a bi-annual event, giving recognition to people from our community that have been instrumental in developing and supporting the arts.

There are three categories; youth (aged under 25 years), adult and a posthumous award for those citizens who have contributed much but received little or no official recognition during their lifetime.

Past recipients include Jesse Herman, Mary Sanderson, Richard Sutton, Pat Hartley, Anne Garry, Barry McKillican, Mary Girvin – well, come see the photos in the Gallery for yourself!

The Arts Council committee has a nomination process that offers opportunity to nominate people from the area, with a simple, easy- to-access nomination form.

The committee then looks at the nominations and chooses the recipients.

Nominations that may not be awarded in any year are kept over for the next process.

The purpose is to honour and recognize as many of our deserving citizens as possible.

Check out the Gallery of photos in the ramp area leading to the arts portion of the Arts and Recreation Centre on North Star Road.

In the past, the Arts Council has partnered with the City of Quesnel to honour the recipients of Sports Awards but with budgetary restraints, the committee decided this year the ceremony would be held in conjunction with the opening of the Art Gallery Show Art From the Heart.

The month of February is always open to artists to submit their work in any medium.

This year the theme is My Heart’s Desire.

The show is sponsored by Ron Paull Communications and Quality Tax Services.

There are always a wide variety of pieces, from mixed-media, watercolour, oils, clay, wood – come out and see this wonderful show.
