Quesnel’s choral group will be singing Christmas classics this holiday season.

The Q City Singers are returning this month after being relatively silent the past few years due to COVID-19.

Their first rehearsal for the Christmas season will be on Thursday, Sept. 22, at Bethel Church at 6:30 p.m. and continue each week.

”I’m excited. I just ordered all of the music a few weeks ago, so it’s starting to trickle in now,” said director Corry Climenhage.

The Q City Singers hosted a mini-spring session with good results earlier this year after having no choir rehearsals or performances since the pandemic began.

Fall and winter rehearsals will continue until Thursday, Dec. 8, followed by a concert.

“Our theme is a quiet Christmas because we’ve all gone through a lot in the last couple of years,” Climenhage said. “It’s time to just get back to some traditional music, have a chance to be reflective of the coming of spring and the darkest time of the year, which is solstice, and just celebrate with some traditional Christmas carols and winter vibe.”

The Q Singers will launch their spring season Thursday, January 12, 2023, with a concert in May.

While Climenhage said you do not have to sing well to participate, the ability to carry a tune is important.

“It’s not meant to be intimidating,” she added. “It’s quite delightful, and people are always surprised that it’s actually easier than it sounds.”
